When playing Among Us, knowing the tactics necessary to win as both a traitor and a crew member is crucial. However, you should not fixate on one strategy – you need to be prepared for any situation.
This guide presents different strategies related to the different stages of the game.

Tactics Related to the Use of Vents
For details on the use of vents, see here.
- Sabotage the electricity, kill in the reactor, move to the lower engine, and fix the light (The Skeld).
- Light sabotage, kill, move outside, fix the light (Polus).
- Viewing the cameras, go to the infirmary while moving a crew member there, kill, and return to the starting point (to the cameras in the guard room) (The Skeld).
- Kill in decontamination, move to the far side of the map, and sabotage the reactor (MIRA HQ).
- In large numbers: sabotage communications, kill in communications, move to navigation, fake a mission with data download (The Skeld).
- Killing in the guard room: closing doors in Guard, moving from medbay/electrical to guard, killing in guard, returning to medbay/electrical.
- Kill near the hatch, then don’t leave the hatch until the corpse is found. Best to use when taking a long time to recharge.
- Not recommended to use a vent if traitors have less range than crew members.
- If there are 2 crew members, wait for a recharge while acting like a crew member. After reloading, kill the first one you see and the game will end.
Ventilation Moves on The Skeld
- If there is one crew member in the room (mandatory: the room must have a vent), close the door, sabotage the room, kill the crew member, and jump into the vent. Then climb out on the other side. When the kill recharge is complete, jump back into the vent and watch the room with the corpse.
- If a crew member looks into the room after the sabotage, climb out of the hatch and kill them. If the door and sabotage are recharging, you can do everything in the same way in another room. However, this tactic has a high risk, as the traitor may climb out too late, and in the meantime, the crew member will have time to make a report. Tactics to Start the Game
- Be sure to look at the user settings in the lobby before starting the game: the most important lines for the traitor are Visual, Anonymous Voting, Taskbar updates, and Taskbar completion frequency.
- After appearing on the map, look at the tasks, especially paying attention to general tasks:
- If the taskbar is not always updated, you can safely fake common tasks.
- If the scale is always updated, it’s better to fake them together with a large crowd.
- If you don’t see common assignments on your list, NEVER fake them! This is especially true for key assignments. On the contrary, not doing shared assignments can arouse suspicion.
- If you are wary of doing generic tasks in one stage, try waiting for sabotage and assassination to recharge by faking tasks that have multiple stages (e.g. fix wiring, download data, examine samples, etc.).
- Look at the recharge time of the Emergency Assembly – this can help late in the game.
- If you see someone doing a visible task, mark them as your prospective victim: such crew members can’t be blamed in a vote.
- Also, try to kill those who suspect you or vote you out. But be careful – this may arouse more suspicion.
- Try to blend in with the crowd after committing an assassination. But don’t join a large group of crew members: they may accuse you when they find the corpse.
- Murder in a far location, sabotage in the location furthest from the murder, join the crowd after fixing the sabotage, move in the crowd for a long time, and bring the whole crowd to the crime scene.
- Set up the sabotage and really fix it. That way, you won’t get suspected, especially when you’re standing downloading data somewhere (fake), and “aborts the mission.”
Tactics for Voting
When Self-Reporting
- If no one saw you kill a player and then self-report their body, you should detail where you came from and where you found the corpse. Before self-reporting, you should make sure you have an alibi in advance, and that no one saw you with the victim shortly before the murder.
- If someone saw you kill a crew member and made a self-report, then start persistently but not violently accusing the witness. If there are three players left, then start convincing them that you have a visible mission. In any case, self-reporting is a very risky tactic and should not be abused.
- If someone is actively accused and then the accused is found dead, the others will think the accused is a traitor. If the traitor is not accused of murder, then it is safe to kill the accuser and then a normal crew member will be banished.
Tactics Related to Sabotage
All Cards
- If missions are almost done, then sabotage communications.
The Skeld
- If you kill someone, sabotage them at the furthest location from the corpse. This way you will probably roll back the kill, and it will take the team much longer to find the body.
- If there is no one in the Electricity, you can sabotage the light and stay in the location. If one crew member approaches the sabotage, make sure there is no one near them, kill them quickly, and run to the hatch. The body will be found quickly, and you will most likely not be suspected, as the crew members will not be able to see well.
- Often, if there are 4-5 people left in the game, including one traitor, all players try to stick together. Sometimes they don’t even do missions, but just run around each other in one of the locations, or stand in the Guard and look at the Cameras. A traitor, in such a case, can cause electricity sabotage and then, when the Light has a bunch of players standing around, kill one of the players. It is preferable to say during the vote that they were fixing the light. This way, the number of players can be reduced to three.
The Airship
- Sabotage the collision, after which go to the left side of the aisle. Next, pretend to fix this sabotage. The result is a crowd kill, everyone is equally suspected. Works if the players fixing it are as close to each other as possible and if there are many of them.
Tactics to End the Game
If there are only two more crew members left than traitors, you should act decisively:
- If there are three players left, look at the “rollback” of the emergency meeting.
- When it is almost over, call a critical sabotage, preferably in the reactor, and if you have a long kill cooldown, close the doors: both engines and then the mess hall and storage. It is also advisable to close the doors in the guards, infirmary, and electrics so that players don’t hide (The Skeld). On other maps, you do not need to close the doors.
- If both crew members went to fix the reactor, stay standing in the mess hall, preferably closer to the left doors. The kill will most likely roll back.
- If one of them is left standing by the button, go fix the reactor and just stand near one of the “palms” without opening the minigame(!). Chances are, a second crew member will come running in shortly, and soon you will have a kill rollback.
- If you have a small kill rollback (20 seconds or less) you can also use O2, light, or communications sabotage.
- On MIRA HQ:
- If there are three players left, run to the reactor and when you reach the locker room, sabotage the reactor. After that, use the ventilation to quickly get to the reactor and start pressing the close button on the decontamination corridor doors to keep the crew members in the locker room. If crew members do make it to the reactor, stay with them, but don’t fix the reactor. The journey to the mess hall is quite long, so your kill will most likely roll back before the enemies can get to the button.
- Note that this tactic will not work if the rollback of the Emergency Meeting is less than 15 seconds.
- Immediately sabotage the reactor, then run into the reactor (without using vents), and do not fix its leak (MIRA HQ).
- At the Pole:
- If there are 3 players left, sabotage the seismic stabilizers, close the doors to the office, and stay waiting at the button.
- Sabotage the seismic stabilizers, close all doors except the office, and go outside to the landing pod, after fixing the stabilizers, close the doors to the office, follow the crew members, and kill them at one of the doors.
- If the kill roll is 20 seconds or less, sabotage the stabilizers, pretend to fix one of them without opening the mini-game(!), and kill the first person who comes to fix your stabilizer.
- If 2 traitors are alive:
- Sabotage the oxygen (seismic stabilizers), and each of the traitors must kill a person from their side.
- If there are 3 crew members left, with 2 traitors alive, arrange any sabotage except the door sabotage.
- Once killed, you may start following another crew member and lead them to the corpse.
- At the vote, you should either accuse your companion of self-reporting or create an alibi for yourself, assuring that you were running with your companion the whole time and could not have committed the murder. This tactic is risky and is best executed when there are 4 players left alive.
Following these strategies can significantly improve your chances of winning in Among Us, whether you are playing as a traitor or a crew member. Adapt your tactics based on the game’s dynamics, and always be prepared for unexpected situations.
